Thai police investigate robbery reported by German celebrity | Entertainment

BANGKOK (AP) — Thai police said Thursday they were looking for a suspect in the robbery of German celebrity Cathy Hummels, who reported her cellphone was stolen in an overnight attack on a southern beach.

Hummels, 34, is a German TV presenter and wife of German footballer Mats Hummels, who plays for Dortmund. She traveled to the southern seaside province of Phang-nga last week to film the show Battle of the Reality Stars, which she hosts, according to German media.

Phang-nga provincial police released a statement after posting an Instagram story about his theft and giving an interview to German newspaper Bild.

“A few days ago, something bad happened to me,” she told her fans on Instagram. ” I was attacked. It was the most horrible experience of my life. I didn’t know if I was going to survive. »

Bild’s story quotes her as saying that as she was walking on the beach near her hotel on Saturday night, an assailant came from behind and hit her on the head and punched her repeatedly.

“At some point I realized it was a matter of life and death and I started standing up for myself,” she said.

She said the thief ended up taking her mobile phone and she ran back to her hotel, and a few hours later flew to Dubai as planned.

The Thai police statement gave a less dramatic account, based on what she told them when she filed a report that night.

He said she told them the assailant hit her once in the left arm and she fell, after which he took her iPhone and ran away.

She also told the police that she did not remember what the thief looked like because it was dark and she did not want to pursue the case at that time because she was going to leave Thailand. later that night and that she didn’t want her name to appear in the media.

Hummels also refused to meet with a doctor to check on a bruise on her arm, the police statement said, noting that she left around midnight on a flight to Dubai. He said they haven’t found the suspect yet.

Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and violent crime against visitors is rare but not unknown.
