After the April 23, 2013 summit, RCB did not find the date pleasant.

RCB & April 23. It’s a love story that started in 2013. Nine years later, no RCB fan would approve of this relationship.

Fast forward to 23rd April 2013. It was a historic day for RCB, IPL and world cricket. 175 was the magic number. No, that was not the RCB total. It was the total of the boss of the universe, Chris Gayle.

Gayle crushed the bowlers like it was a breeze. He broke records as if nothing had happened. In that inning, Gayle hit 17 sixes and 13 fours. It was carnage everywhere. Propelled by those monstrous innings, RCB ended up getting a total of 263 and then stopping PWI at 133.

Four years later, April 23, 2017, was another historic day for RCB. However, no RCB fan would want to relive it. Chasing 131 against Kolkata Knight Riders, RCB won 48, the lowest score in IPL history. Fans were stunned in the silence and the RCB dugout looked distraught.

It was a new low for the franchise, and after the group stage they finished last in the points table.

Well, the story is not over yet. Five years later, on April 23, 2022, RCB fans experienced the toxicity the day brings. At the start of their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB were in third place in the points table. They were playing well and had some serious wins under their belt.

Based on their record in 2022, no RCB fan would have expected what ultimately unfolded. Batted by SRH, RCB was down to 20-4 in no time. From there, it was a battle between 2017’s score and what they would end up getting.

2022 won, RCB were grouped for 68, and SRH chased it in eight overs and won the game by nine wickets. Just to say, it’s a love story gone wrong.
