How Jacob Elordi Sees Nate’s Relationship With Cassie and Maddy on “Euphoria”
In season 1 of Euphoria, Nate and Maddy had an on-and-off relationship. The two are separated at the start of the show’s second season, and Nate begins a secret relationship with Cassie. However, at the end of episode 3 of season 2 of Euphoria, “Ruminations: Big and Little Bullys”, Nate seems to be trying to reconcile with Maddy.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Elordi explained what it’s like to describe the two different relationships, saying:
“Yeah, it’s completely different working with Syd. With this particular script, I tried to treat it almost like I was making a romance movie because I needed to have something different in my eyes in the way I looked at her. Whereas when I was working with Alexa last season, it was like a drama. Everything was combative, everything was always nervous, everything was always worried – I had to play every scene as if it were a battle. Whereas with Sydney, I never really thought much about love in the first season, where I was saying earlier, this season for me was about love. So I tried to play the scenes almost like I was doing a completely different movie, you know? Yeah, it’s completely different to work with both.

Nate might struggle to move on from Maddy in ‘Euphoria’
While there’s no doubt that Nate and Maddy’s relationship is toxic, Elordi hinted that Nate might find it difficult to end his relationship with Maddy in Euphoria.
“I don’t know. I think we have love in our DNA and in our bones, and I don’t think it’s really going away. You’ll always have a twinge in your heart when you see that someone. So it’s “It was definitely something I was trying to play. It’s also really hard to let someone go fully, to say ‘goodbye forever.’ at Entertainment Weekly.
The actor continued, “Especially for someone like Nate who, on top of that, is so controlling, and has something he needs, and has no idea if he loves who he loves. I think that has a lot to do with it.
What does Nate think of Cassie?
In episode 2 of season 2 of Euphoria, “Out of Touch”, Nate dreams that he marries Cassie and starts a family with her. During his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Elordi opened up about how he interpreted Nate’s feelings for Cassie at the start of the season.

“I think he just has this very primitive ‘American dream’ idea in him of having a very straight white picket fence, a beautiful blonde life. This idea of love and family he doesn’t have. This conventional storybook idea for him. And I think he does this thing, is what you say, trying to convince himself like, ‘It’s right in front of me. She’s a good girl. She loves Me. I have full control over her. That must be what love is,” Elordi said.
However, the actor doesn’t think Nate really knows “what love is.”
“Because it’s his thing. All the while, I think he has no idea what love is. He is not loved by his mother. He is not loved by his father. He is not liked by his peers. He has no idea what true love is. So he just tries as best he can to figure it out,” Elordi told Entertainment Weekly.
New episodes of Euphoria premieres on HBO every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
