Liane Moriarty has returned to the screen with another successful series adapted from one of her best-selling novels. Following “Big Little Lies” in 2017, Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers” premiered on August 18 with three animated episodes.

The series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale and Regina Hall, takes place in a tropical wellness center where a bizarre retreat chef promises nine broken strangers (none of whom know each other) that they will leave happier than they came. But it quickly becomes clear that she has a plan for them that neither of them could have expected.
