Bruno wants Toon to be the “world power”
Bruno Guimaraes has pledged to help make Newcastle a “world power” and win the Champions League.
The Brazilian midfielder has signed for the Magpies from Lyon in a deal that could top £42million.
Guimaraes, 24, was also tracked by Arsenal during the January transfer window.
And when asked during his unveiling if Newcastle could be even bigger than the Gunners, he said: “Certainly.
“We are going to be a club that is a big power in world football.
“It’s already a club with a great tradition and a great history, and I have no doubts about my decision to come to Newcastle.
“They (the owners) were very upfront and honest.
“They made no secret that the main objective and the challenge remained in the Premier League this season.
“But in the coming seasons the goal is to be in the Champions League and possibly win the Champions League.
“I believe in the project and I believe in everything they told me.”
Guiamaraes boldly compared himself to Spanish icons Xavi and Andres Iniesta, and revealed former Mags defender Claudio Cacapa – coach at Lyon – spoke to him about the move.
The Samba star was on international duty when the deal was struck.
