New Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is still not convinced that letting Romelu Lukaku leave the club this summer is the right idea, according to reports.

The Belgium international joined the Blues last summer in a £97.5m move from Inter Milan but he hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Despite finishing as their top scorer with 15 goals, Lukaku was criticized for his overall play and effort as he struggled to find a regular starting spot alongside Thomas Tuchel.

Lukaku scored just eight Premier League goals last season in 16 starts under Tuchel, with the German now looking to sell him this summer.

Inter Milan have reportedly offered €5m to loan Lukaku out for the season but Chelsea want 10 million euros to allow him to leave on a temporary contract.

However, Athleticism affirm that Boehly “is still not fully convinced that letting last season’s top scorer, and someone under contract until 2026, leave temporarily is the right decision”.

The report adds:

“Yet those close to the matter believe the relationship between Lukaku and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is very strained by the events of the last 12 months and will be difficult to mend.”

“The 29-year-old is believed to have established a healthy relationship with Boehly and retains an affection for a team that first signed him from Anderlecht as an 18-year-old in 2011.

“Sources insist the complications are mostly between Lukaku and Tuchel and as long as the German is in charge it’s hard to see a way back.”

Meanwhile, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan told Lukaku he ‘made himself look like a fool’ when he gave a controversial interview to Sky Italia last season, in which he hinted that he was not happy at Chelsea.

“Since that ridiculous interview he did with Sky Italia, which they held in the bank and dropped him at the best time so they could get the maximum exposure, the player hasn’t responded “, said Jordan on talkSPORT.

“He responded to the fact that he was being made to look like a fool and he had to deal with the manager and the disappointment, but he didn’t respond on the pitch, which is the key territory. So why are you holding him back? are you?

“He doesn’t look fit, he doesn’t look interested, he doesn’t look motivated to play for Chelsea, so the only reason he’s here is for an economic transaction. .

“I think they should get rid of Lukaku because he didn’t do what he was brought in to do. He’s not a young developing player, he’s not a foreign player coming in. England and learn the league.

“He’s already made his position clear, he’s already signaled his virtue to the Italian fans saying, ‘I’d like to go home one day’ – well, go ahead then, we’ll send you there in a taxi !

“Chelsea will be looking to get as much as they can for him, but if they can get a £20m loan fee and he still holds value on your books, that’s a decent deal.

“And how much of his salary should Inter pay? The lot! Inter will have to accept this as they get Lukaku without any significant cash flow up front. Yes he is supposed to get £325,000 a week , but that’s the reality of football.

“But is he finished at Chelsea? I think so.”
